Cost of Laser Treatment for Freckles

Some people would love to have freckles yet others hate them. If you are fed up with being told your freckles are 'cute' but you just can't stand them, then laser treatment is an option. Age spots, brown spots and uneven pigmentation associated with the ageing process or sun damage can also be treated using laser technology.

How much does laser treatment for freckles cost?

Private clinics usually break the cost down into the initial consultation fee (free- £100), test patch (around £50) and treatments. All prices vary depending on location and the type of clinic you choose. As a guide, prices range from £90 - £400 per treatment. The number of treatments you will need depends on the number and colour of your freckles as well as the type of laser equipment used. As an estimate expect to need at least 4-6 treatments. Therefore the total price could be around £2500.

How does it work?

Laser freckle removal, also known as photo facial rejuvenation or laser skin rejuvenation, is non-invasive. Light energy from the laser is converted into heat energy. Heat breaks down the pigment melanin in the cells on the upper skin layer, the epidermis. The fragmented melanin is then absorbed back into the body. The laser also stimulates the deeper layer of skin, the dermis, to produce collagen which helps to ?plump up? the skin, making it look smoother and more youthful.

What should I expect from treatment?

You will be given protective goggles to wear to protect your eyes. The practitioner directs the laser beam at each individual freckle. Sessions last between 15 - 30 minutes. You may feel an uncomfortable hot pin-prick sensation but it shouldn?t be painful hence anaesthetic is not required. You may experience minor skin redness and soreness after treatment. The change is gradual so you may not notice immediate results after your first treatment. Treatments are usually spaced out to once a fortnight.

Aftercare - how can I prevent the freckles from returning?

Always use a high factor sunscreen (at least SPF 30 with UVA, UVB and UVC protection) on a daily basis to reduce the risk of the freckles or hyper-pigmented areas returning. Adopt a daily skincare routine which includes moisturising day and night and exfoliating every few days. Ensure you have a health lifestyle. Giving up smoking, reducing your alcohol intake and regular exercise will all improve skin health. A diet rich in fresh fruit and vegetables provides anti-oxidants such as vitamin C which help combat damaging free-radicals from the sun.
